D4CB 2.5 CRDi Crankshaft & Engine Rebuild Kit
Rebuild your Kia Sorento or Hyundai H1, i800, iLoad and Starex 2.5 CRDi engine with this comprehensive D4CB crankshaft kit. Both options combine a replacement crankshaft, four connecting rods, engine bearings, a full timing chain kit with four timing sprockets, an oil pump, a water pump and an engine overhaul gasket set.
Two options are available: an earlier-specification kit and a later-specification kit. Their crankshaft configurations, oil pumps and associated engine components differ. Piston rings are included with the earlier kit only.
Important: these kits are for applicable D4CB 2.5-litre CRDi diesel engines. The D4CB engine code and vehicle registration year alone do not identify every component variation.
Choosing the Correct D4CB Crankshaft Kit
Select the option that best matches your engine and enter your 17-digit VIN in the comments at checkout. We verify every VIN after purchase to establish the appropriate kit specification.
If a different-priced option is required, you can pay the difference or receive a partial refund, as appropriate.
If your vehicle has a replacement engine, please also provide the details of the engine currently fitted. Its components may differ from the original specification recorded against the VIN.
Any year ranges displayed in the option selector or photographs are a guide. Final selection depends on the engine specification and our post-purchase compatibility check.

Option 1: Earlier-Specification D4CB Crankshaft Kit
The earlier kit is shown with an eight-counterweight crankshaft, a separate chain-driven oil pump and a set of piston rings. It is intended for the corresponding earlier D4CB engine configuration, including applicable Kia Sorento 2.5 CRDi and earlier Hyundai applications.
Earlier Kit Contents
- 1 × D4CB crankshaft in the earlier configuration shown
- 4 × connecting rods with matching big-end caps
- 1 × set of crankshaft main bearing shells
- 1 × set of connecting-rod big-end bearing shells
- 1 × set of crankshaft thrust washers
- 3 × timing chains
- Timing chain tensioners, guide rails and tensioner arms
- 2 × camshaft sprockets
- 1 × high-pressure fuel pump sprocket
- 1 × crankshaft timing sprocket
- 1 × separate oil pump with its drive sprocket
- 1 × water pump
- 1 × engine overhaul gasket and seal set
- Engine bolt sets shown, including cylinder-head bolts
- 1 × piston ring set for four cylinders
Four loose timing sprockets are included: the earlier kit contains the full timing chain kit, including both camshaft sprockets, the high-pressure fuel pump sprocket and the crankshaft timing sprocket. These four sprockets are supplied even though they are not visible in the earlier-kit photographs.
Option 2: Later-Specification D4CB Crankshaft Kit
The later kit is shown with a four-counterweight crankshaft and an oil pump assembly with an aluminium sump carrier. This option is intended for the corresponding later D4CB engine configuration found in applicable Hyundai H1, i800, iLoad and Grand Starex models.
The large aluminium assembly in the photograph is the oil pump and sump carrier assembly. It differs from the separate oil pump supplied with the earlier kit.
Later Kit Contents
- 1 × D4CB crankshaft in the four-counterweight configuration shown
- 4 × connecting rods with matching big-end caps
- 1 × set of crankshaft main bearing shells
- 1 × set of connecting-rod big-end bearing shells
- 1 × set of crankshaft thrust washers
- 3 × timing chains
- Timing chain tensioners, guide rails and tensioner arms
- 2 × camshaft sprockets
- 1 × high-pressure fuel pump sprocket
- 1 × crankshaft timing sprocket
- 1 × oil pump assembly with aluminium sump carrier
- 1 × water pump
- 1 × engine overhaul gasket and seal set
- Engine bolt sets shown, including cylinder-head bolts
Piston rings are not included with the later D4CB crankshaft kit.
Full D4CB Timing Chain Kit Included with Both Options
Both crankshaft kit options include three timing chains, tensioners, guide rails and all four loose timing sprockets. The timing components supplied must match the earlier or later engine configuration selected.
Replacing worn chains together with their associated guides, tensioners and sprockets allows the timing drive to be renewed during the engine rebuild. The installer must follow the correct timing and tensioner-setting procedure for the specific D4CB engine.
Engine Overhaul Gaskets and Seals
Both options include an overhaul gasket and seal set for the corresponding engine specification. The photographed sets contain a cylinder-head gasket, rocker-cover gasket, manifold gaskets, front and rear crankshaft oil seals, valve-stem seals and assorted smaller seals and O-rings.
The installer must check the required head-gasket specification and all sealing surfaces during the rebuild, particularly where the engine has previously been repaired or machined.
Kia and Hyundai D4CB Fitment
This listing covers the following 2.5 CRDi D4CB applications, subject to confirmation of the complete kit specification after purchase:
| Vehicle | Engine Code | Kit Selection |
|---|---|---|
| Kia Sorento I / first-generation Sorento (JC) 2.5 CRDi | D4CB | Earlier configuration; confirm against the vehicle and engine details |
| Hyundai H1 / Starex (A1) 2.5 CRDi | D4CB | Earlier configuration; confirm against the vehicle and engine details |
| Hyundai H1 Cargo / iLoad (TQ) 2.5 CRDi | D4CB | Earlier or later configuration, depending on the engine fitted |
| Hyundai H1 Travel / i800 (TQ) 2.5 CRDi | D4CB | Earlier or later configuration, depending on the engine fitted |
| Hyundai Grand Starex (TQ) 2.5 CRDi | D4CB | Earlier or later configuration, depending on the engine fitted |
Important: the two options are not interchangeable simply because both engines carry the D4CB code. Crankshaft configuration, connecting rods, timing components, oil pump and gasket requirements must match the engine being rebuilt.
This kit is not for petrol engines, the D4BH/D4BF 2.5 diesel engines or the 2.2 CRDi engine used in other Sorento models.
Installation and Avoiding Repeat Bearing Failure
Find and correct the cause of the original failure before installing the replacement crankshaft. A new crankshaft and bearings can suffer further damage if oil starvation, blocked oilways or debris from the previous failure remain in the engine.
During the rebuild, the installer should inspect the sump and oil pickup, clean the accessible oil passages, check the lubrication system and assess the condition of the block, bearing housings and retained components. An oil cooler contaminated with metal from bearing failure should be replaced, as trapped particles can re-enter the oil supply and damage the rebuilt engine.
- Measure the crankshaft journals and verify main and big-end bearing clearances.
- Check crankshaft end float and connecting-rod compatibility.
- Inspect cylinder bores and pistons; check piston ring suitability and end gaps where rings are fitted.
- Follow the correct timing procedure for the engine specification.
- Use the specified tightening sequence and torque-angle procedure for the engine fasteners.
- Prime the lubrication system using the appropriate workshop procedure and verify oil pressure before normal operation.
Professional installation is required. This parts bundle supports an engine rebuild; the condition of the existing engine determines whether additional components or machining are needed.
